Description

Transgender Flight Lieutenant and Navigator and Tactics and Electronic Warfare Instructor, Royal Air Force. In 1998 she began her transition to live as female. Upon informing the RAF of her transition, she was permitted to remain in service and became the first transgender officer to serve openly in the UK military. Received three Commendations between 2007 and 2012, recognising 'exceptional service' for her work to enhance the operational survivability of aircraft in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2011 she received a Permanent Under Secretary for Defence Special Award for her contributions to diversity and her advising and mentoring of transgender military personnel.
