Description

Art curator and mentor/partner of famed photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who is recognized as an important individual who promoted photography into a fine art form. Curator of contemporary art at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut (1961-1968). Sold his photography collection to the J. Paul Getty Museum in 1984. Also known as Sam Wagstaff. Died of AIDS.
