Description

Noted for emigrating from Europe to the United States, because of his well-known homosexuality, at the request of Benjamin Franklin to head up the American revolutionary forces and instilling the discipline and military strategies needed for the successful campaign for independence. Served as inspector general and major general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and as George Washington's chief of staff in the final years of the war. Author of the book 'Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States'. Formerly, Aide de Camp to Frederick the Great. Also known as Baron von Steuben, Friedrich von Steuben, and Baron Friedrich von Steuben.
