Description

Christian gospel singer and entertainer, known as the 'King of Gospel' and for incorporating traditional black gospel music and soul music into mass choir performances. Winner of four Grammy Awards (1974, 1977, 1980, 1990). Former member, The Gospelaires, and founder of the Southern California Community Choir and the Cornerstone Institutional Baptist Church. Died of AIDS.
