Senator since 2023 when she was appointed by the Governor of California on the death of Senator Dianne Feinstein. The first black lesbian to serve openly in Congress. Former President of Emily's List, a Political Action Committee, since 2021 prior to which she was director of public policy and campaigns in North America for AirBnB. Formerly president of SEIU United Long Term Care Workers, SEIU Local 2015, and president of the State Council in 2013. A regent of the University of California from 2018 to 2021.
