Description

Ice hockey and football player. Member of three national championship teams, for football in 1911 and hockey in 1912 and 1914. Considered one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time, and the name on the trophy given annually to the “most outstanding” player in NCAA men’s hockey, taking into account on-ice excellence and character. The only American who was a member of the first Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945, and the only person inducted into both hockey (1945) and college football (1975) halls of fame. Posthumously awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy by the National Hockey League and USA Hockey in 1987 for his contributions to hockey in the United States. Subject of the ESPN documentary 'Searching for Hobey Baker' (2024). Died in an airplane crash.
