First professional active NBA basketball player to declare his sexual orientation. Joined the Brooklyn Nets after coming out and played for a portion of the 2013 season before retiring in 2014. Played NBA basketball for six teams in 12 seasons, notably as a reserve with the Washington Wizards after a midseason trade from the Boston Celtics prior to his coming out. LGBTQ activist who has raised significant profile for the community within the sport
