Description

Woman whose murder in New York City became a sensation - the screams and cries for help were heard and witnessed by many, but went ignored and unreported. Created the concept of the 'bystander effect', or 'Genovese syndrom'. Led to the creation of the national 911 emergency calling telephone number.
