Description

Mathematician who made contributions to probability theory, topology, intuitionistic logic, turbulence, classical mechanics, algorithmic information theory and computational complexity. Author of the book 'Foundations of the Theory of Probability' (1903) which established him as the leader in this emerging field of study. Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and chairman of its committee on mathematical education. Created the Chapman–Kolmogorov equations in the analysis of stochastic processes. Taught at the Moscow State University. Had a relationship with fellow mathematician Pavel Alexandrov.
