Description
Second King of Portugal and known as 'The Victorious' from 1656-1683. Saw the end of the Restoration War and the independence of Portugal in 1668. His brother, Pedro, gained control and had him exiled for the last eight years of his life, though he remained King of Portugal in title. Despite his marriage to Marie Francoise of Nemours, he is notable for his romantic relationships with Antonio Conti, Jeronimo de Ataide, and others. Also known as Affonso VI.
