Description

Gay rights, anti-apartheid and AIDS activist, and founder of the Saturday Group, the first black gay group in Africa. Founded the Gay and Lesbian Organization of the Witwatersrand (GLOW) in 1988. Worked on the campaign to have discrimination based on sexual orientation outlawed in the 1994 South African constitution, and the repeal of sodomy (1998). Organized the first Pride Parade in South Africa (Johannesburg, 1990). Also known as Tseko Simon Nkoli. Died of AIDS.
