Description
Theatre director and producer. Co-founded the Circle in the Square Theatre in Greenwich Village in New York City, which created the off-Broadway theatre industry. Notable for his support of playwright Eugene O'Neill in his infancy of fame. Many plays he produced went on to win Tony Awards for their directors and actors. Also directed operas. Inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame, 1979. The Jose Quintero theatre in New York City is named in his honour.
