Description

Canadian feminist and former mayor of the city of Ottawa. She was the first female mayor of a major city in Canada. Known as a staunch nationalist and patriot. Partner was Margaret Grier, though this was not known widespread until after her death. Appointed Officer of the Order of Canada in 1967. Known for the phrase "Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult``.
