Description

Former Member of Parliament originally for the CHU Party (1972-1973), then as an independent (1976-1977), and then the Labour Party (1977-2000). Came out as gay in 1977, and is considered the world's first openly gay member of parliament for any country. Former history teacher. Author of the books 'Beatrix. The crown of the Republic' (2005), a biography of the Queen of the Netherlands, and 'The Netherlands and the Story of Orange' (2012).
