Professor of the History of the Church in the University of Oxford (since 1997) and Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford (since 1995). Notable books include 'Reformation: Europe's House Divided 1490–1700' (2003). Present of numerous television series on historical subjects, such as 'A History of Christianity' (2009). Appointed Knight Bachelor (2012). Fellow of the British Academy, the Society of Antiquaries, and the Royal Historical Society.
