Description

British Consul General in Chicago and former Ambassador to Luxembourg (2004), whose appointment was controversial at the time since he was publicly gay. He and his partner were the Foreign Office's first officially recognized gay couple to be sent abroad. He and his partner made history as the first officially recognized gay couple to have an audience with Queen Elizabeth II.
