Description

Professor Emeritus of East Asian Languages and Literature at Yale University. Taught Japanese literature and culture, Korean Studies, and LGBTQ Studies. Author of his debut novel 'The Rise and Fall of the Yellow House' (2015), a story about the first years of the AIDS crisis in Seattle. Author of numerous books on the academic topic, and has written about gay life and culture in the U.S., Japan, Korea, and Singapore. Member of the Executive Council of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and currently chairs Yale’s LGBT Studies Committee.
