Author and activist, notable for the books 'Who Look At Me' (1969), a collection of poetry for children, and 27 other pieces. Teacher at a number of universities, and from 1989 to 2002 she was a full professor in the departments of English, Women Studies, and African American Studies at the University of California Berkeley.
