Crime fiction writer using the pen name Lou Rand, and columnist with The Gourmet magazine. Private chef for billionaire industrialist Henry J. Kaiser. Notable books include 'The Gay Detective' (1961, believed to be the first published gay American murder mystery novel) and 'The Gay Cookbook' (1965). Contributor to The Advocate magazine and Bay Area Reporter.
