Description

Choreographer, ballet dancer, and opera director. Founder of several ballet schools, since dissolved, before creating the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. Noted for fusing African and South Asian dance, using flamboyant costumes and avant-garde music that made him a pop star. Won the Prix Benois de la Danse for lifetime achievement in 2003.
