Description

Artist, sculptor, and pewterer, who initially managed his family business, then embarked on his own career with several notable exhibitions in the 1920s. Moved to the United States to become a science fiction writer. Made headlines in 1907 with his arrest, conviction and imprisonment for homosexual affairs, a matter detailed bitterly in his autobiography when his homosexual friends failed to support him. The scandal caused a discussion on homosexual affairs, as it was believed his sentence was harsh.
