Description

Film director and animator. Joined National Film Board of Canada as a producer/director. Introduced animation by drawing directly on film, and created animated sound. Multiple awards, including Oscar for the Best Documentary in 1952 for Neighbours. Received the first medal of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1963, the Canada Council Medal in 1966, the Molson Prize in 1971, and the Diplôme d'honneur of the CCA in 1978. Companion, Order of Canada (1973).
