Senior Advisor at the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and in his own climate and sustainability consultancy Tyrsky. First openly-gay member of the Finnish Parliament (2004-2015), representing the Green League, when he was appointed to replace a retiring politician in 2004. He was directly elected in 2007 and became Chair of the Green parliamentary group. Active in climate change politics and became advisor to the Prime Minister on the issue. Deputy Member of the European Parliament (2014-2019). Founding member of Friends of the Earth Finland. Formerly active in municipal politics as a member of the City Council of Tampere and an environmental activist.
