Description

Opera, theatre, and film director. Winner of almost twenty movie awards, including the Cannes Jury Prize and the Golden Berlin Bear, he served as president of the jury at the 2003 Cannes festival. Artistic Director of the Public-Theatre (1996-2013). Recipient of the Europe Theatre Prize (2008). Notable films include 'Intimacy' (2001), and notable opera productions include Wagner's Ring cycle' (1976).
