Description

University Professor of Sociology, University of Sydney. Transgender, born Robert William Connell. Notable for her research on large-scale class dynamics and the relationship between class and gender. Author of numerous books on the subject, notably 'Making the Difference' (1982) and 'Gender and Power' (1987). Other book subjects include AIDS, sexual practice, masculinities, schooling, and intellectuals. Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, a recipient of the American Sociological Association's award for distinguished contribution to the study of sex and gender, and of the Australian Sociological Association's award for distinguished service to sociology in Australia.
