Description

Professor of Egyptology, University of Oxford since 2013. Expert in ancient Egyptian literature, especially the poetry of the classic age (1940-1640 BC) with research interests in issues of performance practice, cultural power, and sexuality in Ancient Egyptian culture. Former curator, Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan, British Museum. Editor of the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology (1993-1998). Author of numerous books, including 'Reading Ancient Egyptian Poetry: Among Ohter Histories' (2009), 'A Little Gay History: Desire and Diversity across the World' (2013) and 'Glimpses of a Gay World History: From ancient Egypt to the Modern Museum' (2015).
