Description

Professor at the City University of New York, where he taught German language and literature (1947-1973). Author of detective novels. Wrote film criticism, book reviews and essays that appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, The Saturday Review, The Nation and several German-language periodicals. Author of the book 'The Dragon in the Forest' (1948), a novel based on his youth in Germany. Author of 'The Pink Triangle: The Nazi War against Homosexuals' (1986). Survivor of the Holocaust.
