Classical music composer of vocal, including opera, song, and theatre. Much of his work is based on popular culture and icons of the time, such as 'Twenty Seven' (an opera based on Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas), 'The Grapes of Wrath' (based on the novel), 'Rappahannock County' (based on the Civil War), and 'Green Sneakers for Baritone, String Quartet, Empty Chair and Piano' (a reflective piece on the AIDS epidemic).
