Description

Priest, founder of Society of St Francis de Sales, which sends missions overseas. One of many homosexuals who found in the Catholic church a family and a mission. Repressed sexuality lead to his compassion for youth. Founded a movement of laity, the Association of Salesian Cooperators, with the same educational mission to the poor. In 1875, he began to publish the Salesian Bulletin, which is still being published today. Beatified in 1929 as a Saint of the Roman Catholic Church. Also known as Don Bosco, John Bosco, and Saint Giovanni Bosco.
