Description

One of the lesbians whose scuffle with police contributed to the Stonewall riots, and a member of the Stonewall Veterans Association. Was a successful drag act, a bouncer at a number of New York bars and an advocate for LGBT rights. Emcee and Master of Ceremonies of the Jewel Box Revue, a traveling variety show, in the 1950s and 1960s. Received numerous public honours and recognitions for her rights work, including the Gay Lifetime Achievement Award from Senior Action in Gay Environment (SAGE) in 2000.
