Description
One of the longest serving Members of Parliament in Canada (from the province of British Columbia), 1979-2004. In 1988 was the first MP to come out as gay. Forced to leave politics due to stress after being charged with theft. LGBTQ rights activist, chair of 2009 Copenhagen Outgames Human Rights Conference. Currently working with The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Recipient of many awards for human rights. First Member of Parliament to be elected and publicly LGBTQ. Lawyer.
