Description

Member of Parliament, 1942-1955, 1959-1974) for the Labour Party. Formerly a journalist (using the name William Hicky in his columns) and poet, and a long-time member of the Communist Party. Author of a biography on Lord Beaverbrook. Though married, he made no secret of his homosexuality. Made a life peer in 1975 as Baron Bradwell of Bradwell. After his death, has often been accused of being a spy and informant.
