Description

Assumed the crown after the death of his father (1087). Known as a brutal and corrupt tyrant, and was unpopular due to his tax policy and prohibition of deer hunting on Royal lands. Extended his rule into Wales, brought the Scottish King Malcolm under his influence and established peace in Normandy. Known for his squabbles with the English church over the sodomy present in his court. Shot through the heart with an arrow while hunting in the New Forest. Also known as King William Rufus and William The Red.
