Activist in advancing the rights of black lesbian feminists. Literary critic. Co-founded and publisher, 'Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press' (1980). Received a 1994 Stonewall Award for her activism. Has lectured and taught at colleges and universities throughout the U.S.. Twin sister of LGBTQ activist Beverly Smith.
