Prime mover of the Arts and Crafts movement through his design work. Producer of jewelry, enamels, metalwork, house design, furniture, and fireplaces. Though married, he admitted to his wife his homosexuality before the marriage. Ashbee was a member of the Order of Chaeronea, a secret society founded in 1897 for the cultivation of a homosexual ethos.
