Description

Poet, writer, painter, dramatist, filmmaker, director and curator. The topic of same-sex desire is a recurring theme in his work, and uses his Afro-Caribbean identity throughout, calling his style psychic realism. His films include: 'Desiree' (1984); 'Almacita, Soul of Desolato' (1986); 'Ava and Gabriel: A Love Story' (1990); 'Marival' (1997); and 'Muhe Frida' (2011). Appointed Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau (2000) and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award (2017).
