Description

Painter, principally of landscapes in a surreal style. Writer and art critic for the Daily Telegraph newspaper (1952-54). Taught at The National Arts School (1956-1962) and The King's School, Parramatta, and presenter on the television show 'Children's Hour' (1956-1962). Lived in Italy from 1956 onwards. His works are contained in many public and private collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection in Switzerland, the Yale University Art Gallery in Connecticut, and the National Gallery of Australia. Had a long relationship with fellow artist Ermes de Zan. Author of his autobiography 'Not Quite Straight' (1996).
