Description

Medical doctor, suffragette, and politician. First female doctor at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital (1910–1916). Established Saint Ultan's Children's Hospital in 1919 with a group of female activists. Sinn Finn party member of the Dáil Éireann (House of Assembly) for the Dublin county constituency (1923-1927). Member of the Irish Citizen Army and chief medical officer during the Easter Rising (1916). Considered a pioneer of children's medical and welfare in the country. Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons. Partner was labour activist Madeleine ffrench-Mullen.
