Professor of Philosophy, New York University, who focusses on the philosophy of politics, language, and the mind. Formerly University Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University. Recipient of the National Humanities Medal (2012). Served on the boards of the PEN American Center, the National Humanities Center and the American Academy in Berlin. Chair of the American Philosophy Association (2008-2011).
