Description

Transgender rights activist who was instrumental in changing laws in the country to allow sex change operations. She lobbied the government to obtain a fatwa, issued in 1986 after her meeting with Ayotollah Khomeini, that enabled sex reassignment surgery within the legal system of Iran. Founder of the Iranian Society to Support Individuals with Gender Identity Disorder (ISIGID). Also known as Maryam Hatoon Molkara.
