Description

Civil rights activist and lawyer with the Worker's Defense League. Served on the 1961 Presidential Commission on the Status of Women and in 1966 was a co-founder of the National Organization for Women. First black Deputy Attorney General of the State of California (1946). First black woman ordained an Episcopal priest (1977). Author of numerous legal books and commentary.
