Men's and women's fashion and accessories designer who founded his own label with The Vera Companies, Perry Ellis International. After several ownership changes, company went public on the NASDAQ exchange. President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) from 1984-1986. Awards include 8 COTY Awards and CFDA Fashion Award (1981). Died of AIDS.
