Description

Emeritus Professor of Education and Health in the Centre for Social Research in Health, University of New South Wales. Former Visiting Professor, University of Sussex and University of London, and held a senior position with the World Health Organization. Noted for his work on the history and social impact of HIV/AIDS, health education, sexuality and gender, and sexual and reproductive health. Editor-in-chief of three journals: Culture, Health & Sexuality, Health Education Journal and Sex Education, and is an associate editor of the journals AIDS Education & Prevention, Global Public Health and Health Education Research. Among his numerous books and publications, he is editor of the book series 'The Social Aspect of AIDS' (1988-2002). Honorary distinguished professor in the College of Arts and Social Sciences at The Australian National University, and adjunct professor in the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University in Melbourne. Has worked with United Nation's agencies to respond to HIV and sexual health issues.
