Description

Europe's first transgender minister when she was appointed as Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister (2020) where she oversees Belgium's public administration and public enterprises. Member of the European Parliament (2019-2020). Former Associate professor of gynecology at the University of Ghent and head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine at the University Hospital of Ghent. Her research area focused on the polycystic ovary syndrome and the different techniques of assisted reproduction. Author of several articles on the topic in journals and magazines. As a Green Party Member, she was co-opted as a Senator in the Senate (2014-2019). Transgender.
