Description

Transgender author of gothic horror novels, followed later with dark comedies. Born as Melissa Ann Brite, but name changed to Billy Martin, writing under the professional name Poppy Z. Brite. Work often features bisexual and gay characters. Notable horror books include 'Lost Souls' (1992), 'Drawing Blood' (1993), and 'Exquisite Corpse' (1996). Also wrote the biography 'Courtney Love: The Real Story' (1999). Notable dark comedy books include her Liquor Novels series.
