Co-Founder (with Jorge Silvetti), Machado and Silvetti Associates, with expertise in art museums and education buildings. Professor at Harvard University of Architecture and Urban Design at the Graduate School of Design (1986-2010), chaired the Department of Urban Planning and Design (2004-2009) and is Professor in Practice of Architecture and Urban Design, Emeritus. Former Chair, Department of Architcture, Rhode Island School of Design (1978-1986). Former Bishop Professor of Architecture at Yale University, Smith Professor of Architecture at Rice University, Jean Labatut Professor of Urbanism at Princeton University, and Thomas Jefferson Professor in Architecture at the University of Virginia.
