Description

Playwright, novelist, academic. Much of her work chronicles the AIDS crisis. Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at the City 'University of New York, College of Staten Island and a Fellow at the New York Institute for the Humanities at New York University. Notable books include 'People In Trouble' (1989), Stagestruck: Theater, AIDS, and the Marketing of Gay America' (1998), 'The Cosmopolitans' (2016), 'Maggie Terry' (2018), and 'Let the Record Show' (2021). Co-creator of the Act Up Oral History Project. Co-founded the New York Lesbian and Gay Experimental Film Festival (1987). Recipient of numerous awards for her work.
