Academia is generally considered a professional field where issues such as gender identity are not thematized - that is, if an individual's research is of high quality, the profession generally does not care about the gender identity of the researcher or authorHaving said that, there is a range of reported experiences depending on the faculty and institution of choiceThe applied sciences such as chemistry, engineering or biology tend to be politically more conservative than the humanities or social sciences, especially the latter which also include sexual orientation within their specific curriculum.

DID YOU KNOW?

Popular LGBTQ Podcast Producers and Hosts

Lgbtradio.jpg

Podcasts are periodic digital presentations which listeners can download via the internet and listen to at any time. In many respects, they are like radio shows (with the presenter and guests mimicking radio DJs and hosts) and hence can be characterized as disruptive to that traditional business. They are becoming more and more popular with listeners as they become more widely available. Podcasts are a means for individuals to communicate their ideas and talents to a wide audience of individuals interested in niche topics and looking for specific commentary or presentation on a topic.

Most podcasts are free, but many of the most popular are on a subscription basis where shows are automatically downloaded to the subscriber. There are many subject matters for podcasts with the most popular being political commentary, comedy, and current affairs. Internet radio providers, who rely on paying subscribers, have sprung up to stream in-house produced podcasts sorted by subject matter.

An individual who is an expert on a particular subject matter, or who has a well-regarded reputation in their field, tends to attract the most subscribers. There are many such LGBTQ individuals whose podcasts are widely followed and anticipated. Keen listeners are always looking for the newest and most innovative podcasts to share with their networks, and popularity can spring up overnight. There are numerous columnists offering advice on the top LGBTQ podcasts to listen to, and many online commentary sites and traditional magazines are expanding their offerings by producing regular podcasts for subscribers.

At the moment, most of the popular LGBTQ presenters are located in the english-speaking world. We have identified podcast producers and hosts who are LGBTQ from Canada, Great Britain, and the United States. To read more and see the complete list, click HERE

Announcing Our New Documentary Project - Being Different: 101 Global LGBTQ Individuals Who Changed the World

Beingdifferentdoc.png

Despite adversity and discrimination, LGBTQ individuals have excelled throughout history. Yet historians and academics have conveniently participated in the heterosexist erasure of these LGBTQ contributions by omitting the LGBTQ status of prominent historical figures from academic and historical documents. Accordingly, there are relatively few comprehensive projects which document and showcase the influence of these LGBTQ efforts.

Being Different: 101 Global LGBTQ Individuals Who Changed The World will be an original documentary outlining the contributions that members of the LGBTQ community have made, individually and collectively, to changing the world.

We are now Crowdfunding to get this project off the ground. We would love to have you as part of our team. You can help us and SUPPORT THIS PROJECT!

Our goal is to make QueerBio.com the go-to website for global biographical information on LGBTQ identified individuals. To do this requires a serious commitment of people and resources, so we need your help to fund and help this project grow.
