Description

Writes for newspapers The Guardian, The Scotsman, and the Times Literary Supplement. Award winning novelist. Booker-shortlisted twice for her novels 'Hotel World' (2001), narrated by a dead chambermaid, and 'The Accidental' (2005), the story of a mysterious and androgynous outsider who infiltrates a family holiday. Whitbread Novel Prize (2005) for 'The Accidental', which also made it to the Orange Prize shortlist. Other books include 'Spring' (2019). Appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (2015).
