Description
Member of the California Supreme Court since 2020, being the first openly gay California Supreme Court justice and only the third African American man ever to serve on the state’s highest court. Served as the Judicial Appointments Secretary for California Governor Gavin Newsom since (2019-2020). He was previously a Justice of the California Court of Appeal for the First District (2008-2019), located in San Francisco, and a former United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Co-author of the Jenkins-Laporte Doctrine, which defines the boundary of copyright and contractual rights in the licensing of digital works. Former professional football player with the Seattle Seahawks.
